Construction of a solar roof on the premises of HUSA Logistics in Veendam began in 2022. The company handles the entire logistics process for end clients and haulage companies. The project consists of 30,288 solar panels on the roofs of eight storage halls with a total area of 9000 m2.
The solar roof was completed in late 2022 and is now operational. At first, it appeared that structural limitations would present difficulties during the construction process. These were resolved by installing roof anchors and small roof reinforcements. The roof membrane of the building was replaced with silicon from CoolRoof, which allows optimum use to be made of solar reflection to generate more energy.
A total generation capacity of 15,077 kWp is installed on the roof of HUSA Logistics, which is enough to supply green power to 3,900 homes. This makes the solar roof at HUSA the largest solar roof project in the northern Netherlands. The partnership with Novar is part of HUSA’s wider vision for sustainability. Many years ago, the company invested in new lighting that reduces energy consumption by no less than 18 percent. Their trucks also have Euro 6 engines that comply with strict standards for CO2 emissions.
