In the ‘Our fixers’ series, each month we talk to a colleague about working at Novar. Everyone works in a different department, but with a common goal: fixing the energy transition. In part 3, we speak to Wouter de Roos, Technical Expert at Novar.
‘As Technical Expert, I have a broad role, but my main task is to work with business developers and project managers on designs for green energy systems. I do this for solar parks, for example. I am responsible for drawing and optimising the energy production of a solar park. For this, I conduct research into the yield of a solar park and map out how to get the most return from a park.
Besides solar projects, I am also involved in designing and setting up stand-alone batteries and batteries that will be located at other assets. As this is a free young market with many developments, this can still be challenging. But it is definitely worth the effort to figure everything out. Finally, I am involved in working out energy studies, such as cable-pooling issues. This involves a case where you connect a solar farm to an operational wind farm.
In my role, I often have to make estimates of the future. This is where the biggest challenge in my job lies for me. The energy market is full of developments, so the future is also uncertain. In our new projects, we anticipate these new developments and try to find the best solution. This is challenging, but also makes the work very interesting.
What appeals to me most about working at Novar are the people and the mission. The people and therefore the culture at Novar are unique. Everyone is involved in the same mission: to realise 4 gigawatts of sustainable energy by 2030, using green energy systems. To work on that with the whole company is unique and I appreciate that enormously.
The strength of Novar? That lies in the fact that everyone is driven and that we work on the energy transition with the same motivation. Contributing to the energy transition was an important criterion for me in finding a new job. At Novar, I definitely found that.’
